The Rainbow Bridge

Dobe Prayer

I was standing on a hillside in a field of blowing wheat and the spirit of a Doberman was lying at my feet. He looked at me with kind dark eyes an ancient wisdom shining through and in the essence of his being I saw love there too. His mind did lock upon my heart as I stood there on that day and he told me of this story about a place so far away.

I stood upon that hillside in a field of blowing wheat and in a twinkling of a second his spirit left my feet. His tale did put my heart at ease my fears did fade away about what lay ahead of me on another distant day.

"I live among God's creatures now in the heavens of your mind, so do not grieve for me, my friend as I am with my kind. My collar is a rainbow's hue, my leash a shooting star My boundaries are the Milky Way where I sparkle from afar. There are no pens or kennels here for I am not confined but free to roam God's heavens among the Dobie kind. I nap the day on snowy clouds, gentle breezes rocking me, and dream the dream of earthlings of how it used to be. The trees are full of liver treats and tennis balls abound, Milkbones line the walkways, just waiting to be found.

There even is a ring setup the grass all lush and green, where even Rescue Dobermans become the best of breed. For we're all winners in this place we have no faults, you see. And GOD passes out blue ribbons to each one, even me.

I drink from waters laced with gold my world is beauty to behold. And wise old dogs do form my pride to amble at my very side.

At night I sleep in Angel's arms her wings protecting me and moonbeams dance about us as stardust falls on thee.

So when your life on earth is spent you stand at heaven's gate have no fear of loneliness, for here, you know I wait."

Cowboy
My Big Dobie Boy, I can't believe you are gone. We nursed you back to health when you came into the program so sick you couldn't stand up. You made it through Heartworm treatment. I loved you with all my heart you were a Special one. Your time here was much too short. You will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest my sweet Dobie Boy. September 22, 2008 Your Foster Mom***********

Shawna
Shawna was an overnight guest for Midwest Doberman Rescue, she was on her way to Illinois Doberman Rescue in Chicago to find her forever home. She had been found as a stray in Wichita Kansas and was in a high kill shelter. Laura in Wichita called Harold and thanks to Harold our Dobie Rescue Trucker she was safely driven to us. The next morning she was transported to Springfield Illinois with Jim and from there Ann drove her to Chicago. Shawna wasn't feeling so good when she arrived, she had a bad cough and as time went on she wasn't able to get any better. After almost a month to the day Shawna laid down to rest and never woke up. Shawna was 12 years old we know that for a fact, she was micro-chipped and we had found her owners, they just thought she had wondered off and died, and weren't interested in getting her back. How sad for Miss Shawna. Isn't it amazing what a small group of people can do to help save a 12 year old Doberman. Shawna was safe and loved for the short time she was with all of us. Rest my Sweet Dobie Girl.

Baron
Baron was adopted 2½ years ago from MWDR. At the ripe old age of 8 or 9, he found his poor self at a high-kill shelter. MWDR bailed him out of doggie jail and was able to find a forever family for this senior Dobe. His foster mom fondly remembers what a happy Dobie boy he was. Baron enjoyed the last years of his life living in a warm, safe home with a family who loved him very much. He rested comfortably on his favorite couch every day until one evening he had an acute onset of cardiac failure. MWDR is sorry to hear of the loss of this wonderful Doberman, but we are comforted by the fact that he lived the Dobie-dream with a family who loved him and was there for him until the end. Rest in peace, sweet Baron.

Hans
Hans was adopted out as a baby in 2000. Seven of his littermates succumbed to Parvo so it was a miracle Hans even survived. His life began on a terrible note -rumor has it the breeder murdered his wife then committed suicide only days after the litter was born.

Hans was quirky and somewhat skittish but can you blame him? Hans passed away 1-26-08 after spending 8 wonderful years knowing the love of a forever family. His dober-sister Greta had passed away 10 months before him at age 9. Poor Hans must have died from a broken heart as he was so very grief stricken after Greta died.

Hans' family has shed many, many tears and miss him so very much. He is survived by his 1 yr old dober-sister Ingrid.

His family is grateful to Doberman Rescue for the 8 joyful years they were able to spend with Hans, whom they deem the most wonderful dog the world has ever known.

Rest in peace, dear Hans.

Kingston
My Big "Prancing Pony" your life was short and sad. I am so sorry we could not do more to help you. You will be truly missed and you were truly loved.
